Why Autistic children have poor balance and coordination?
Vestibular system is one type of sensory system that helps to develop balance and coordination.
Other six senses are….
Sight
Smell
Hearing
Touch
Taste
Proprioception.
When there is disturbed in function of vestibular system.It is called vestibular dysfunction.
It may be hypofunctioning, hyperfunctioning.
It affects a child’s balance, coordination, motor activites, attention and concentration.
If a child have vestibular dysfunction he will be delayed in sitting, walking,run,jump,or any other motor activites or even in speech.
There are so many child who doesn’t like swing, slide,or any other playful activities.
Actually they have fear about all this and they doesn’t want to involve themselves into it.
These child like to play with spinning toys .
They have tend to avoid movement.

These child have low muscle tone ,that’s why they does not sit or stand in one place for long and they do not have stability.
Things help to overcome this problems
Swing
Slide
Animal walk
Hand walk
Balance
Trampoline jump
Water play
Balance board
Walking on different surfaces.
Gym ball activities and so on.
These all provide vestibular stimulation to a autistic child.
How much vestibular input we will give the child ,it will help the children to overcome his problems .
Make him involve with other playful activities in ground with other children.
Untill the child overcome this,his speech will be delayed.
